MacBook Pro 8-core i9 Benchmarks

I’ve just upgraded from a 2.5 GHz 4-core i7 15-inch Mid 2015 MacBook Pro to a top of the line 2.4GHz 8-core i9 2019 MacBook Pro with a Radeon Pro Vega 20 — Apart from the keyboard this is an excellent upgrade.

I ran some quick benchmarks and the results are an impressive increase on all fronts, especially the multi-core and compute scores. I also ran the same tests on my gaming PC that has an RTX 2080 Ti installed for comparison.

MacBook Pro 15-inch Mid 2015 Geekbench Scores

  • Single-Core (2.5 GHz 4-core i7): 4297
  • Multi-Core (2.5 GHz 4-core i7): 15106
  • Compute OpenCL (Intel Iris Pro): 27041

MacBook Pro 15-inch 2019 Geekbench Scores

  • Single-Core (2.4 GHz 8-core i9): 5189
  • Multi-Core (2.4 GHz 8-core i9): 30368
  • Compute OpenCL (Vega 20): 77378

Gaming PC Geekbench Scores

  • Single-Core (3.7 Ghz i7-8700K): 5454
  • Multi-Core (3.7 Ghz i7-8700K): 23566
  • Compute OpenCL (RTX 2080 Ti): 354764

The new MacBook Pro is a great machine, and while the keyboard isn’t as good as the one on the 2015 MacBook Pro, it’s still decent enough. Fingers crossed the keys will be okay and won’t suffer the same issues as the previous generations. Only time will tell.
